FLAT ROOF SURFACES

There is a range of surfacing materials for flat roofs: EPDM rubber, torch-on felt, GRP and profiled steel sheet.

Each material has a particular benefit and is chosen according to the exact type of roof we are called to work on.

These days EPDM rubber manufactured by the Firestone Rubber company is the material most widely used because it is durable and relatively straightforward to install. This means a lower price for the customer.

Torch-on felt maybe the preferred option for a repair where the existing surface is already felt. For very large flat roofs on commercial buildings 3-ply torch-on felt maybe preferrable to EPDM.

GRP - Glass Reinforced Polyester is advisable where the roof has steps, upstands or services protruding from the roof. This is because the combination of liquid resin and flexible glassfibre sheets is suited to forming into more complicated shapes.

The final option, used mainly for commercial and industrial buildings, is plastic coated box profile steel sheets.
